The head of Blur’s record label has said he hopes the band’s new one-off single for Record Store Day will lead to more fresh material from the reunited rock heroes.
The full line-up went back into the studio for the first time in eight years recently and the resulting song will be available as a seven-inch vinyl single on Saturday.
It will be limited to 1,000 copies and only available from UK independent record shops as part of Record Store Day.
Parlophone Records president Miles Leonard told 6 Music it was “an absolutely wonderful summer tune”.
“I think it encapsulates all the sum of the parts of that band,” he said. “They sound as competent and as strong as they’ve ever sounded before.
“At this point we were just really pleased to hear that they wanted to go in and record this. And who knows, from the reaction to this song, what will come in the future.
“I just hope that from hearing a song like this that the band feel there’s more in them. We certainly do as a label and I’m sure when fans hear this they’ll think the same.”
